Here is what I've been working on for Robyn but I still need to chat with Tommy about finer details she shares with Mark. They are childhood friends though have known each other since they were very young.
Name: Robyn Dawson
Age: 16
House: Hufflepuff
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Thin, Shoulder length blonde.
Build: 5’7”, Slim Build, Lanky.
Wand: 11 ¾” Cedar, Unicorn Hair Core
Blood: Muggle Born
Family:
Catherine Roberts (Muggle Mother)
Nicholas Roberts (Muggle Step Father)
Tyler Roberts (Muggle Step Brother)
Lysander Dawson (Muggle Father)
Status: Single
Pet: None at Hogwarts
Miley (West Highland Terrier, owned by her father)
Personality
Robyn comes across as gregarious, open and a warm-hearted individual however she has a deep layer of emotional behaviours and thoughts under the surface. Even having faced some major hurtful heartache in the past, she has maintained her kind, thoughtful charm but her confidence was left behind the day she received her welcome letter from Hogwarts and her mother walked out on her and her father.
Robyn’s main weakness is a separation anxiety and reluctance towards any major changes. If her subconscious feelings get the better of her she is quickly reduced to tears and will lose her self confidence. She has a tendency to worry or care too much about the people she cares most about and as a result is an easy target for bullies like Alexis.
She always comes through with the things she promises, is always trustworthy and reliable making her an easy person to be around.
She likes Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures mainly because of a love of Nature, she doesn’t mind Charms as her wand supports her class work but she loathes other practical classes where she has to perform in front of other students. Maintaining a connection to the Muggle world Robyn still loves to take photographs and will always add snapshots in her letters to Steph White, Mark’s mother to make up for the little details he fails to include.
Early History
Robyn grew up in a small little muggle village on the outskirts of a busy country town with her mother and father. She went to a normal local primary school but there were a few small unexplainable incidents that occurred during her learning and social interacting that isolated her away from the other muggle children. She learned well with writing and reading, adored animals and being out in the countryside but didn’t really have many friends, there was only one… Mark. Mark never seemed to care that occasionally toys would find themselves floating off the floor, he was just always there wanting to share anything he had with a friendly smile.
Being innocent and naïve, she never really thought her parents had underlying relationship issues until the letter came through the window by an owl informing her that she had a place at the prestigious school for gifted witches and wizards. This cracked Catherine and was the final straw, her mother had spent many years defending Robyn from the taunts of being ‘the freak child’ but now it was true and confirmed on paper. Witches in her mind were of the stereotypical image: they wore black pointy hats, had black cats, flew on brooms on Halloween, grew long noses with hideous warts, boiled toads and most definitely were evil. Lysander was more supportive of his daughter, but became angry with his former wife. He didn’t totally approve of the idea that Robyn was destined to go to a school to learn spells or brew potions but he wanted her to have a good secondary education one where she would grow into an independent young woman and be in a place where she’d fit in with everyone else. In her father’s eyes there were worse crowds of youths Robyn could be involved with than ones that could cast magic.
In the process of divorcing Catherine, Lysander maintained custody of Robyn but it wasn’t him that took his daughter to Diagon Alley. Unusually one August morning, Mrs White turned up on the Dawson’s doorstep armed with both of her children announcing that she had arranged to escort any local children going to Hogwarts in the September to Diagon Alley for the day. Confused, but assuming this was a magical related event Lysander let Robyn accompany Steph, Mark and Kelly. Steph was a familiar trustworthy face around the village, if in the Dawson’s eyes a tad strange but she would always be the focal point of any village activities and threw the most extravagant dinner parties one could only dream about.
Diagon Alley was the best day of the whole summer, awkwardly convert pounds to gold galleons was a bit strange at first and the money her father gave her was enough but not a lot to splash on any luxury items. Her book list was as long as her arm and there were so many weird items she needed like a cauldron with ingredients and more uniquely a wand. Mr Ollivander advised the matching of a Cedar wood wand to Robyn, an instrument of a strong character and would undoubtedly be loyal. Most exciting of all was it was an honest user’s wand with its core of a female Unicorn tail hair. The majority of her books were new except under the advice of Steph to hunt for the really used copies of the most appealing books, these were where true advice was always scribbled between the lines and annotated drawings complimented with not so helpful comments about the professor.
On the early hours of September the 1st, Lysander filled the old Ford card with the wooden trunk of magical related items under the cover of the first rays of sunlight to avoid being seen and set off with his daughter and the dog to King’s Cross Station in London. He was happy with this journey; there was nothing (apart from the contents of the trunk) abnormal about it at all, no brooms, owls or traffic delays. There was even the chance he’d get back in time to pop into the office on his return to discuss his latest submission to the newspaper’s editorial department. Robyn on the other hand had remained sunken and miserable the entire journey plagued by doubts about the dread of the new school, the lack of friends and fact she hadn’t seen or heard from her mother in weeks.
Being dropped off at the station and left to fend for herself Robyn cried as her father drove away. It felt like total abandonment once again by one of her parents and there was nothing she could do about it. Sat on her trunk in the middle of the concourse, it was Steph’s kind hand that yet again unexpectedly showed her the caring way through the barrier and on the right direction to a new exciting life.
Hogwarts years
First year was a real eye opener for Robyn, she was sorted in Hufflepuff not the most popular of the school houses but she quickly found her personality matched the badger traits and felt right at home in black and yellow. What Robyn hadn’t expected though was the constant torment and bullying of being a ‘Mud Blood’ day in, day out. Blood purists and effluent individuals found they could easily break Robyn’s fragile exterior and the more she cried, the more they teased her.
Progressive years was quite the same as the first, she found that she struggled to gain confidence in subjects such as DADA and Transfiguration and spent much of her time in the safety of the Hufflepuff common room with her head buried in textbooks where she could hide away from the Pennington twins.
She developed her dislike for involvement for Quidditch and a loathing for Professor Snape who would always think she was a little on the pathetic side.
Relationships with other characters
Mark
Whether he realises it or not, Mark means more than the world to Robyn. They have known each other since they were very young and trust each other implicitly. There isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for him and she always has his safety and best interests at heart.
However with their lives changing and their teenage years passing before their eyes, innocent friendships that once seemed more solid than steel are now feeling extremely vulnerable under the strain of natural desires.
Robyn worries more and more that Mark will someday need to move on and meet new young women in his life, some that could even replace her. With the loss of her mother, the large distance between herself and her father, would losing Mark mean the end of the world?
Alexis
Robyn struggles with Alexis and always finds herself to be her victim. Initially the bullying seems to all be blamed on her blood lineage but Robyn is unaware of Alexis’s true intentions and feelings towards Mark and herself.
At all costs she likes to avoid her tormentor but somewhere in her heart Robyn would one day like to stand up for herself and really get to know Alexis and her motives. Maybe they aren’t so different from each other?
Blake
The mysterious background lingering presence is how Robyn would describe Blake. Seeing as he is never very far away out of his sister’s shadow Robyn hasn’t ever put herself out there to get to know him or to change her opinion of him. Currently she finds his sombre silent stares intimidating but he has never physically been the one to hurt her or instigated any nasty verbal abuse, even though he took the blame for the events of last year’s evening formal.
Aria
Robyn and Aria have been friends for the last few years. Both quiet and studious, the pair formed a quick friendship and Robyn enjoys having Aria around for the times when a girly chat is necessary.
(I really haven’t seen enough of Aria in action yet to know much more)
