Exiting the tunnel and out onto the second floor just along the corridor from the Charms class room, Kalina lead Lia straight into the library and gazed up at the large balcony that towered over the large number of stacked shelves below.
“This is the vast library of Hogwarts!” Kalina began stating the obvious first to introduce the book collection around her. It had hundreds if not thousands of books all in one large room that it definitely deserved to be introduced.
As they toured around the ground floor, past the librarian, Kalina branched away from the main ground floor and stood in a small cosy area known simply as an annexe. Scattered around the perimeter of the annexe were high backed, tweed armchairs and the walls were lined with portraits of famous witches and wizards.
Taking three steps to her right to face the eastern wall, Kalina stared up and pointed out a large portrait to Lia. Suspicious of the student’s behaviour the middle aged, dark haired woman frowned from within her frame back at them.
“This..” Kalina began proudly “Is Veleria Myriadd, she helped out a lot around Hogwarts before she sadly died around 1986. She was a Gryffindor would you believe but I always imagined she was a Ravenclaw before I found out. Anyway what’s so special I hear you ask? Well.. behind Veleria is a passage way that takes you to a small dimly lit room, which on the round table in the centre of the room lies the original manuscript for Hogwarts: A History. But not anyone can get enter you need special permission from the librarian and the password is...”.
Leaning close to Lia, Kalina whispered the password of ‘Bibliophile’ before giggling back to her original standing position.
“I’ve been lucky enough to see the manuscript in my fourth year however the amazing thing about it is that on the cover there are hints that that author Chroniculus Punnet aided Professor Albert Garino with the content but didn’t get any credit for his work when the book finally got published. It’s scandalous really; he acknowledges Bathilda Bagshot the author of A History of Magic with a quick word of thanks but not Chroniculus Punnet. Guess we’ll never know what they fell out over but it’s still a fantastic read”.
