Jey watched Katie leave the room. She wanted to go after her but with the classroom rapidly filling with students, she couldnt. Instead, she summoned a patronus, in the shape of a rather large ostrich and asked it to check on her. the ostrich left the room in search of her. hopefully it would return with her reply.

Lia left, walking a little behind the group as they walked to get their books. she sped up to the ravenclaw common room and jogged back towards the transfig room with her book. As she entered, the professor caught her eye and something in them flashed red. Lia recoiled slightly and tried to hide it as she sat near the back, trying to avoid Jey's gaze.
Seth watched as Katie rushed from the room. He wasn't sure why she did, but he hoped it wasn't that she was not wanting to see him. Peter had his textbook open in front of himself.
******* Alex walked with Gen and Lia. First he went to get his book and then he came downstairs. Walking in, he saw Katie leave the room, with what looked like an ostrich following her. Part of him wanted to ask, but he thought it best to let her be.

Returning back to the window, Katie gripped tightly at the smooth rounded edge of the stone windowsill and shamefully hung her head. Convincing herself that she couldn’t do the job, her eyes squeezed tightly shut to try and not shed any tears of weakness. Trying to stop the short, anxiety breaths, she suddenly felt something repetitively nipping at her robes trying to get her attention.
Jey looked around at the puzzled faces, that now filled the room. She clapped her hand loudly twice and she spoke loudly and clearly. 'Okay thank you guys. the dreaded lesson time is here and so is the time for your little voices to stop chirping.' she smiled at the students. 'i'm your new transfiguration teacher, and my name is Professor Garland. but i dont really like that, i'm not much older than you guys, so within the boundaries of this classroom, you can call me Jey.' she declared.
Lia kept her head down. she didnt want her here. Why here? why now?
'So you're all brilliant and you each brought your books with you today, so why dont you turn to page ninety seven and tell me what this chapter is about' Jey said.
Pushing the door to the classroom open with his shoulder, Lance entered with his arms still full of textbooks and his naturally wavy mop of hair falling out of a tidy style. Luckily the magical creatures’ class hadn’t officially started, but he instantly felt placed on the spot as he observed the professor wearing an unusual smirk on his face as they exchanged eye contact. Ok, so it wasn’t exactly a common thing for him to be seen as the studious type and if Vixie had her way the whole school would know he was really quite the opposite. Since getting to know Juliet it had dawned on him that he actually had to learn to get anywhere and if she continued to write his essays for him then he was no better than everyone else who wanted to exploit her vulnerabilities.
Strolling to his seat, he placed the pile of textbooks on Juliet’s empty desk behind him and slipped into his chair. It wasn’t like her to be late for class, was his initial thought as he stared across the room at the closed door, but Lance knew it wasn’t his place to be concerned. --------------------------------------------------------------------- With his right arm resting back in a cloth sling around his neck to support his recovering shoulder, Tristan causally passed Katie and the ostrich patronus taking up most of the corridor with his sister Serena walking with their textbooks by his side. The pair had spent the morning watching the Ravenclaw’s out on the Quidditch pitch but both were still gravely concerned in their own way about Olli’s recovery. Apologising to Professor Garland for being late with a gesture with his good left hand, Tristan took a seat near Erin whilst Serena took a chair behind Seth.
Prof G smiled and nodded. 'Page ninety seven.' she said.

the ostrich spoke with Jey's voice. 'Katie, are you okay? You can come back when you're ready. Let me know.' Clearly, Jey hadnt thought out how unnerving it was to see an ostrich talk. It laid its head softly on Katies shoulder, waiting on her reply.
Stretching out to reach for a copy of the textbook from Serena’s nearby desk, Tristan propped it open and nudged it onto the selected page. Having one good arm was beginning to be a pain but it was quickest way to ensure the injury properly healed. Having had to drag Olli back up to the castle hadn’t been an easy task but he had admired Erin’s determination to see that he made it back inside safely. --------------------------------------------
Slightly petrified that the ostrich might make a sudden move to bite her ear, Katie tilted her head in the opposite direction but remained facing the window. “I can’t do this” she answered sadly, sniffing. “It feels so..”
The bird tapped its beak gently on her shoulder and closed its eyes lazily. it made a sort of weird humming noise, which was oddly soothing, it was trying to comfort her.
**
Lia looked warily down at her text. She waited for Jey to start the lecture, but she was waiting for a student to answer.
Raising her hand and gently patting the soft delicate ethereal feathers on top of ostrich’s oval head, Katie felt comforted by its soft humming. “I want to be here so much, but one day I was a part of them and now the next I have to be superior and act like I don’t care..I miss being with.....”. Pausing Katie realised she was talking to an ostrich.
the ostrich remained very still. a note had appeared in its beak. It read; 'dear katie, i hope you feel well enough to come back to my classes. i appreciate that maybe seventh years are hard to stomach for a first lesson on a first day, remember, if you need to talk, i'm always here. JG' the bird hummed as she stroked it, content to be laying its head on her shoulder.
Taking the note and unusually wanting to thank the ostrich patronus. Katie read the note and crumpled it in her hand. If she told the professor about her problems it would certainly escalate into an investigation against her uncle and parents, and even though the situation looked bad she didn’t want to wish that upon them. Deep down she knew they cared about her, just maybe her uncle was slightly too protective. Still apprehensive, Katie knew the professor was right and had her heart in the right place. If she didn’t face her fears there wouldn’t be any point for her to be back at Hogwarts and wanting to spend time with Seth would just be a ridiculous fantasy. Turning around, she headed back to the door with the ostrich in tow.
(because ostriches are birds and i like 'em. and also, JG might end up being scary...undecided as of yet.)
Jeyna smiled as Katie re-entered the room having composed herself. The ostrich ran up to Jey and she patted it's head, before it dissappeared, humming again. Jeyna pulled her legs up and squished over to one side of the desk, indirectly inviting Katie to come join her. 'I knew you'd come back.' She whispered, gently to her. She smiled and watched the class read about the laws of transfiguration, still waiting for an answer.the students were either very shy, or very stupid or jsut plain old half asleep. she just couldnt decide which.
Lia sat looking around at the others. they all seemed to find this girl familiar. Should she have found her familiar too? She sat, wondering who she was and why she was so apparently significant. Was that a hint of pity in Jeyna's eyes? What was going on? Lia shot Alex a quizzical look.
Leaving the girl’s bathroom with a slouch in her stride, Juliet kept her head down low and patted her damp eyes frequently with a neatly folded square of tissue. Heading down the multiple twisting corridors towards the care of magical creatures classroom, she approached the door but collapsed against the stone frame. <If walking into class late wasn’t bad enough...> she thought miserably to herself, struggling to neaten her black and yellow striped tie that had fallen out of her V-neck jumper. Steadying her irrational nerves, she inhaled deeply to clear her stuffy nose and proceeded to enter the classroom.
Nicci: noo.... That's mean when it does that.
