“So how are you and Vixie doing? Juliet asked caringly as Lance removed his hand and retook the graphite stick to continue on with his drawing.
“Still pretty nonexistent..” Came the reply as the sound of faint scratches on parchment quickly softened the atmosphere. “She’s been too wrapped up with Leilani, I doubt she even gave a second thought to your notebook or put any effort into finding a link to the second volume”
“Oh....” Juliet answered, slumping back against the tree “Guess that means I have to spend another sleepless night wondering if someone is going magically appear in my dorm room and dispose of me whilst I’m asleep.. .”
Pausing to reflect on the possibility of being paid a visit by Dragona, she continued “ I can understand her being worried for Leilani though, I’d be worried about my best friend too if I had anyone that stuck around long enough”.
Raising his left hand to count on fingers, Lance hummed to himself and pondered on putting down a partial fourth digit. “I’ve done three and a smidge day’s can I go now?”
Pretend to gasp at his cheek, Juliet dug her elbow into his arm. “It’s you own fault for getting involved, you may have signed yourself for life but I give you a week before you are climbing the walls to get away from my consistent chatter”
Making a agreeable, sarcastic hmm noise, Lance didn’t look across at Juliet admiring the squashed V-shape, grey carbon smudge on the back of her left hand.
Thinking about the transfer, she didn’t say what she was thinking but just smiled to herself. Nor did he answer to defend the statement. Having someone around to get his mind off other things was quite a blessing, Juliet could double the number of words that Vixie had ever spoke to him in about 3 minutes. Two and a half if she was on a roll with talking about Newt Scamander.
“So what do you see in Vixie anyway?” Juliet questioned having gone back to being partially nosey and curious. “She’s so...”
“Private!...” Lance butted in to try and cut the conversation in half.
“Well yes..but she’s..”
“She keeps things to herself and doesn’t wear her emotions on her sleeve for all to read. She makes you work for her attention and it just feels so much more rewarding when she actually talks back to you. Sure she’s high maintenance but I want to get too know her over time... she’s not easy and won’t just expose her soul like...”
“Like me...?” Juliet answered disappointed and wishing she’d never have asked.
Suddenly sensing the uneasy vibe from Juliet, Lance put his drawing material away and rolled up the parchment. If he didn’t think carefully about his reply to her blunt question she’d more than likely take offence to it.
(Will continue writing the rest in a few hours)
